Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson women's soccer senior Stephanie Eyler (Thurmont/Catoctin) netted her sixth career hat trick and the 56th goal for her career, breaking the CAC career record goals as the Mustangs posted a 4-0 victory over Hood in a CAC contest Saturday at Mustang Stadium.
Stevenson (7-3-2, 1-1-1 CAC), who was ranked at No. 8 in the NSCAA South Atlantic Region Poll on Tuesday, ran its unbeaten streak to five and its record at home to 4-1-1.
Eyler now has 16 career multi-goal games and leads the team with six goals and 12 points this season. The previous CAC record was 54 set by Goucher's Sarah Weaver from 1994-97.
On Saturday, the Mustangs outshot the Blazers 31-1 and took an early 1-0 lead on Eyler's first goal in the 8th minute, tying Weaver's CAC record on an assist from freshman Kaylie Yapps (Joppa/Fallston).
Just 12 minutes later, Eyler made history when she collected a feed from sophomore Jamie Matlock (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland) in the box and neatly clipped it past on-rushing Hood goalie Kirsten Cacciola to break Weaver's record and increase the Mustangs' lead to two.
Stevenson held its 2-0 lead into the break before Eyler scored her third goal of the day just two minutes into the second half.
Sophomore Amanda Marston (Baltimore/Institute of Notre Dame) capped the scoring in the 57th minute, finishing her second goal of the year off an assist from junior Kayla Curry (Timonium/John Carroll) who picked up her first point of the season. It was Marston's third career goal.
Senior Brittany Ross (Millersville/Severna Park) recorded one save on the day to pick up her seventh win and sixth shutout of the year.
Cacciola finished with 12 saves for the Blazers (1-9, 0-4 CAC).
The Mustangs travel to St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday for a 4:00 p.m., CAC contest. Last season, the Seahawks were the only conference opponent to defeat the Mustangs, posting a 2-0 victory in Owings Mills on Sept. 18, 2010.
