OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Tori Eskay and Kim LaBarge
each scored a goal for St. Mary's (Md.) while keeper Kelsey Wirtz
earned her first career shutout after making seven saves as the
Seahawks picked up their first win of the 2010 season, 2-0 over
Stevenson Saturday at Caves Athletics Complex.
Stevenson (3-4, 1-1 CAC) found itself with quality chances to
score, but could not find a way to get the ball past Wirtz. Both
teams had the same number of shots while the Mustangs held a 5-3
edge in corners.
Eskay broke the ice in the 32nd minute as she was well defended
at the top of the penalty area before she found an opening to her
left, turned and fired to give the Seahawks the 1-0 lead.
St. Mary's (1-2-1, 1-0 CAC) added an insurance goal in the 72nd
minute when Taylor Colonna received a pass and dumped it off to Kim
LaBarge who scored on a shot from 10 yards out.
Junior Brittany Ross
(Millersville/Severna Park) allowed one goal and made two
saves on seven shots in the first half before sophomore Lauren
Weitzman (Westminster/Winters Mill) faced eight shots
in the second and allowed the second goal.
The Mustangs conclude their three-game homestand with a
non-conference contest against Catholic on Wednesday, looking to
avenge their 3-2 road loss from a year ago. Game time is at 4:30
p.m.
