OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson field hockey

(Odenton/Arundel) made seven saves, including five in the
first half, but No. 5-ranked Lebanon Valley was too much for the
Mustangs as the Dutchmen led 6-0 at the half en route to a 9-0
victory Saturday night at Caves Athletics Complex.
The gamed marked the first of three-straight for Stevenson (4-4)
against teams ranked in the top 10 of the Kookaburra/NFHCA Division
III Poll as the team will take on No. 1 Salisbury next Wednesday,
September 22 and No. 8 Rowan next Saturday, September 25.
Lebanon Valley (6-0) was led by Caitlin Vasey who had a hand in
five of the Dutchmen's nine goals, including four of the first six,
totaling eight points on three goals and two assists. Shelly Lobach
added two goals and one assist while Allison Bicher also had two
goals.
Bicher and Vasey were involved each of Lebanon Valley's first
five goals as Bicher opened the scoring less than four minutes into
the game off a feed from Vasey. Vasey then scored unassisted before
Bicher added her second to increase the Dutchmen lead to three with
just under 20 minutes remaining in the first half.
Vasey and Rachel Pantalone each picked up an assist on a goal by
Lobach only 1:01 later off a penalty corner while Vasey scored her
second of the half with under seven minute to play.
Lobach then capped the first half scoring with her second off a
feed from Sam Shober with 1:13 left to give Lebanon Valley a 6-0
halftime lead.
The Dutchmen would add three second half goals, including the
first of the season for Cate Cusack and the team-leading 11th for
Jocelyn Novak to hand Stevenson its largest defeat since a 9-0 loss
at Juniata on Sept. 20, 2006.
Sophomore Kelsi Zimmerman
(Odenton/Arundel) played the final 17:56 in relief of her
older sister and faced two shots, but was not required to make a
save.
Stevenson returns to action next Wednesday when it travels to
Salisbury for a 6:00 p.m., contest with the Sea Gulls who were
beaten by No. 2 Messiah today, 3-0.
