OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Four different players
scored, including junior Chris Sokolis
(Perry Hall/Perry Hall) who netted his first goal of the
season, as the Stevenson men's soccer team won its fifth-straight
this season and fifth consecutive at home, defeating Gettysburg 1-0
Saturday at Caves Athletics Complex.
The Mustangs (5-0) are now 12-1-2 in their last 15 games dating
back to last season and are off to their best start in the 17-year
history of the program.
Senior John Adamo (Glassboro,
N.J./Washington Township) opened the scoring in the 25th
minute when he scored his second goal of the season off a corner
kick that was deflected in the box.
Adamo continues his scoring barrage as he is currently second on
the team with five points on two goals and one assist after
entering the season with one assist in 30 career games.
Adamo's goal stood as the game's only tally until the 50th
minute as the Mustangs expanded on its 1-0 halftime lead with two
second half goals.
Sophomore Ansger Otto
(Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) scored his eighth goal of
the season off an assist from junior Josh Danza
(Pasadena/Archbishop Spaulding) who lobbed the ball up
over two Gettysburg defenders into the box.
The goal marked the third game-winner of the season for Otto and
the fifth of his 25-game career.
The Bullets (1-3) cut their deficit in half 10 minutes later
when Tyler Shaffer scored his first of the season off a header in
the box at 59:25.
Sokolis would then pick up some insurance for the Mustangs with
his fourth career tally off a feed from Otto in the 71st
minute.
Junior Ryan Flannelly
(Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) made three saves in picking up
his fifth victory and the 17th of his career. He now boasts a 0.44
goals against average and a .929 saves percentage this season.
Stevenson hosts Shenandoah on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
