ABERDEEN, Md. - Stevenson baseball junior
Brandon Krochune (Baltimore/Digital Harbor) tied
the game with a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh, his
first of the season, but a double by Mary Washington's Nick
Espinosa in the 10th gave the Eagles a 4-3 victory Wednesday at
Yankee Stadium Field.
Krochune finished the game 3-for-4 with three RBIs, but the rest
of the team went 4-for-33 and the Mustangs (14-13, 8-8 CAC) dropped
their fifth-straight and third consecutive at home. The team is
currently in fifth place in the CAC standings with two games
remaining.
With the game tied at 3-3, Alex Howell led off the top of the
10th with a double to right center before scoring the go-ahead run
on a one-out double down the left field line by Espinosa.
Stevenson sophomore Patrick Quinn (Mt.
Airy/Linganore), the team's leader in saves with three,
suffered his first loss in three decisions after allowing just one
run and three hits over two-and-third while striking out two.
The Eagles (17-6, 10-4 CAC) took a 3-0 lead with a three-run
third, highlighted by a two-run single by Santino Rosanova.
Mary Washington maintained its three-run lead until the bottom
of the seventh as starter Eric Rehbein allowed just two hits while
holding the Mustangs scoreless.
With two outs and sophomore Justin Anderson (Shrewsbury,
Pa./Calvert Hall) on first following a single in the
seventh, senior George Papuchis (Damascus/Good
Counsel) singled up the middle to put runners on first and
second before Krochune's three-run homer to right tied the game at
3-3.
Nick Corbin remained unbeaten in three decisions for the Eagles
after surrendering just one hit and striking out three over 3.1
innings.
Rosanova finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs for Mary Washington
while Espinosa was 2-for-4 with one RBI and Will Wright went
2-for-5 with one RBI as seven Eagles had at least one hit.
Stevenson looks to snap its season-long losing streak when it
concludes its three-game series with Mary Washington Saturday with
a doubleheader at Earl Dickinson Stadium. First pitch is at 1:00
p.m.
