Bihy Leads Baseball Past Wesley in CAC First Round

Box score

DOVER, Del. - Stevenson baseball junior Jeff Bihy (Baltimore/Eastern Tech) had a pair of RBI doubles while freshman James Castellano (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) scattered five hits and struck out seven as the fourth-seeded Mustangs handed third-seeded Wesley a 7-4 loss Wednesday in the first round of the CAC Baseball Championship.

Stevenson (17-13) evened its four-game season series with the Wolverines at two games apiece and will host fifth-seeded Mary Washington on Thursday at 3:30 p.m., after the Eagles rallied to upset second-seeded York (Pa.) on the road, 8-5.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth as Castellano held Wesley (16-11) to just two hits through the first three innings and Bihy added a two-run single in the first.

Sophomore Justin Anderson (Shrewsbury, Pa./Calvert Hall) drove in the team's third run with a solo home run to lead off the third before an RBI double from senior Ryan Baione (Waldorf/Westlake) in the top of the fourth.

The Wolverines cut the lead in half with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, but Stevenson responded with three in the fifth, including the game-winning runs on Bihy's second two-run double with one out.

Sophomore Joe Robak (Baltimore/Calvert Hall) later scored Bihy with a single to center to give the Mustangs a 7-2 advantage.

Castellano picked up his second win despite allowing five walks and throwing three wild pitchers over 5.1 innings.

Senior Derrick Nason (Catonsville/Reservoir) allowed one run on one hit and one walk over 1.2 innings before sophomore Patrick Quinn (Mt. Airy/Linganore) picked up his sixth save after allowing surrendering just one hit and striking out two over two scoreless innings.

Bihy finished 2-for-5 with four RBIs while Robak was 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Kevin Murphy and Billy Crowe combined for four of Wesley's seven hits as each were 2-for-4. Ryan Doran suffered his first loss after allowing six runs on five hits over four innings.
