Game 1 | Game

SALISBURY, Md. - Stevenson baseball sophomore
D.J. Milliken (Owings/Northern) earned his second
win in his second start this season while helping the Mustangs snap
a 13-game losing streak to Salisbury Saturday as they took game one
against the No. 7-ranked Sea Gulls 6-4 before dropping game two by
the score of 7-2.
The last win for Stevenson (13-6, 7-6 CAC) against its
conference rival came back on April 27, 2006 when Salisbury was
ranked at No. 2 in Division III and riding a 12-game winning
streak. The Mustangs won the game 1-0 behind a two-hit shutout from
freshman and current assistant coach Wade Keenan.
On Saturday, Milliken allowed just four hits and four runs over
six innings before sophomore Patrick Quinn (Mt.
Airy/Linganore) earned his third save after retiring three
of the four batters he faced in the bottom of the seventh.
Stevenson trailed 2-0 after four before scoring all six runs
with two outs in the top of the fifth, including four after a Sea
Gull error that should have ended the inning.
After RBI singles by freshman Heath Johnson (New Castle,
Del./Charter School of Wilmington) and junior
Chris Maienshein (Finksburg/Westminster), senior
Ryan Baione (Waldorf/Westlake) reached on an error
by Salisbury third baseman Chad Wolfe that allowed Johnson to
score.
Sophomore Justin Anderson (Shrewsbury, Pa./Calvert
Hall) followed with a two-run double to left center that
scored Maienshein and Baione to give the Mustangs the lead for
good. They then added an insurance run when Anderson scored on an
RBI single by senior George Papuchis (Damascus/Good
Counsel).
Brad Baylis homered to lead off the fifth to cut the Salisbury
deficit in half before leading off the seventh with a double and
later scoring on a wild pitch.
However, after allowing a double to Andrew Miller, Quinn settled
down to retire the next three-straight batters to pick up his third
win in three chances this season.
Anderson finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs and was one of seven
different players who had one hit apiece for Stevenson.
Baylis was 2-for-3 while Brian Green was 1-for-3 with two RBIs
for the Sea Gulls. Nathan Young suffered his first loss after
allowing six runs and six hits with five strikeouts over
four-and-two-thirds innings.
The Mustangs trailed 3-0 in the top of the sixth of game two
before scoring two runs on back-to-back RBI singles by juniors
Jeff Bihy (Baltimore/Eastern Tech) and
Brandon Krochune (Baltimore/Digital Harbor) pulled
the team within one, 3-2.
However, Salisbury scored four unearned runs on two Stevenson
errors in the bottom of the sixth to push the lead to five and
avoid its first doubleheader sweep since March 20, 2004.
Bihy was 2-for-3 with one RBI to lead a Mustang offense that was
limited to just four hits by three Sea Gull pitchers, including
starter Kyle Judson did not not allow and earned run while
scattering three hits over five-and-two-thirds and striking out
seven.
Bill Morton was 2-for-2 with two RBIs for the Sea Gulls and
Wolfe was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Freshman James Castellano (Rockaway, N.J./Morris
Hills) suffered his first loss after allowing five hits
and seven walks over five innings.
Stevenson travels to Johns Hopkins on Monday. First pitch is at
3:30 p.m.
