YORK, Pa. - Stevenson baseball junior
Jeff Bihy (Baltimore/Eastern Tech) had two runs
and five RBIs while junior Chris Maienshein
(Finksburg/Westminster) totaled three hits, including two
doubles to lead the Mustangs to a split with York (Pa.) Saturday at
Jaquet Field.
Stevenson (12-3, 6-3 CAC) was held to just three runs and seven
hits in an 11-3 loss in game one before Bihy drove in five of the
Mustangs six runs in a 6-2 victory in game two.
The Spartans got a much needed win in the
opener thanks to a strong pitching performance from ace Jason
Christenberry who scattered five hits and struck out six in six
innings to earn his third win of the season.
In four starts, Christenberry has totaled a 2.25 ERA and 26
strikeouts.
York broke open a scoreless tie with a four-run third,
highlighted by Joe Doyle's three-run double before adding
six more runs in the fourth, including three on a double by Mike
Connolly and two on a triple by Rob Klinck.
The Spartans (6-9, 4-4 CAC) increased their lead to 11-0 with a
run in the fifth before Stevenson got on the board with RBIs from
junior Dustin Tarlow (Finksburg/Westminster) and
senior Ryan Baione (Waldorf/Westlake).
Senior Dan Leonard (Cambridge/South Dorchester)
capped the scoring with a pinch-hit RBI single in the seventh.
In six pinch hit appearances this season, Leonard is 4-for-5 with a
double, walk and two RBIs.
Baione and Maienshein each finished the game 2-for-3 while
junior Josh Brundige (Brookeville/East
Jessamine) suffered his second loss in three starts
this season after allowing 10 hits, nine runs and three walks over
three-and-two-thirds innings of work.
Game two belonged to Bihy who went 2-for-3 with five RBIs after
a two-run homer in the fourth and a three-run blast in the sixth.
He was one of only three players to get a hit for the
Mustangs who scored six runs on just four hits while taking
advantage of three York errors.
Maienshein and junior Steve Krider
(Westminster/Westminster) were both 1-for-3 while freshman
Heath Johnson (New Castle, Del./Charter School of
Wilmington) had a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
Freshman James Castellano (Rockaway, N.J./Morris
Hills) earned his first career win after holding the
Spartans to just four hits and striking out three over
six-and-a-third.
Sophomore Patrick Quinn (Mt. Airy/Linganore)
earned his second save in as many days after getting the Mustangs
out of a one-out, bases loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh to
end the game.
Stevenson travels to Wesley on Sunday for a nine-inning contest
to complete their three-game series after rain and snow
postponed the original date from February 28. First pitch is
at 1:30 p.m.
