Baseball Wins Third-Straight, 7-4 Over York (Pa.)

Box score

ABERDEEN, Md. - Stevenson baseball senior George Papuchis (Damascus/Good Counsel) and junior Brandon Krochune (Baltimore/Digital Harbor) each had two hits and drove in two while senior Derrick Nason (Catonsville/Reservoir) earned his second win in the Mustangs' 7-4 CAC victory over York (Pa.) Friday at Yankee Stadium Field.

The win was the third consecutive for Stevenson (11-2, 5-2 CAC) and its fifth in six games at home this season.

With the game tied at 2-2 in the fifth, the Mustangs scored three runs on back-to-back, two-out doubles by Krochune and junior Jeff Bihy (Baltimore/Eastern Tech).

Stevenson increased its lead to 7-3 after an RBI single by junior Chris Maienshein (Finksburg/Westminster) with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

The Spartans (5-8, 2-4 CAC) threatened in the eighth with runners on the corners and no outs against Mustang junior Johnny Jackson (Baltimore/Cardinal Gibbons). However, Jackson retired the next two batters while allowing just one run before sophomore Patrick Quinn (Mt. Airy/Linganore) got Kyle Cook to ground out and end the inning.

Quinn allowed a harmless two-out single in the ninth before picking up his first career save as the Mustangs won their fourth in the last five meetings versus York dating back to last season where they won three out of four.

Nason scattered six hits and allowed just three runs over six-and-a-third while striking out three to pick up his second win in his second start.

Papuchis and Krochune each went 2-for-4 to lead Stevenson as six of its 11 hits went for extra bases. Junior Dustin Tarlow (Finksburg/Westminster) was 1-for-3 with two runs, two walks and one RBI.

CT Stanley was 4-for-5 with two RBIs to lead the Spartans who lost their seventh in nine road games this season. Chris Frankenfield suffered his first loss after allowing five earned runs and four walks over five innings.

Stevenson and York conclude their three-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader at York's Jaquet Field beginning at 1:00 p.m.
