Women's Soccer Advances to Second-Straight CAC Title Game

Box Score

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - For the second time this season, Stevenson women's soccer senior Allison Humphries (Bel Air/John Carroll) scored the game-winning goal to lift the Mustangs to a shutout victory over Salisbury as they posted a 2-0 victory over the Sea Gulls Tuesday at Caves Athletics Complex in the semifinals of the CAC Women's Soccer Championship.

Stevenson (11-6-1) advances to its second consecutive conference championship game where it will host a rematch with Frostburg State at 1:00 p.m., this Saturday, November 6.

A year ago, the Mustangs hosted Mary Washington in the CAC title game, falling to the Eagles on penalty kicks after both teams battled to a 2-2 draw through 110 minutes.

On Tuesday, neither team was able to break through in the game's first 62 minutes before Humphries scored her fifth goal of the season and the fifth game-winner of her career on a header off a corner kick by junior Julie Dempsey (Waldorf/Westlake).

Dempsey picked up her team-leading fourth assist on a beautiful lob into the six-yard box where Humphries nudged it inside the back post.

In the 85th minute, junior Stephanie Eyler (Thurmont/Catoctin) added an insurance goal after Salisbury keeper Melissa Orgera came out and attempted to clear the ball, but instead, it bounced off Eyler and she tapped it into the open net for her sixth goal of the season and fourth in the last two games.

The goal was also the 50th of Eyler's career, moving her into a sole possession of second place on the all-time CAC list. Goucher's Sarah Weaver holds the record after scoring 54 from 1994-97.

Stevenson was outshot 8-2 in the opening half, but junior Brittany Ross (Millersville/Severna Park) made five saves to keep the Sea Gulls scoreless.

Sophomore Lauren Weitzman (Westminster/Winters Mill) made one second save, but earned her sixth victory of the season and improved her career record to 15-5-3.

After losing their first 12 meetings against the Sea Gulls, the Mustangs have now won the last two and gone unbeaten in three of the last four.

Stevenson is 2-2-1 versus Salisbury since joining the CAC prior to the 2007 season and is 2-1-2 in four conference tournaments under head coach Graeme Millar.

Earlier this season, the Mustangs defeated Frostburg State 2-1 on October 13 at Caves Athletics Complex behind goals by freshman Jamie Matlock (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland) and senior Heather Redding (Street/North Harford).
