Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - A four goal first half, led by two goals and an assist by sophomore and CAC Player of the Year Ansger Otto (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) propelled the Stevenson men's soccer team to a 6‑0 victory over Bethany (WV) Saturday at Caves Athletics Complex in the semifinals of the ECAC Division III South Championship.
The win was the 10th in 13 games at home for the Mustangs (13-5-3) and extended their unbeaten streak to six. The team is now 10-1-2 at Caves Athletics Complex and 4-0-2 in its last six overall.
The six-goal victory is the largest of the year for Stevenson and its most lopsided since a 7-0 win over Hood at home on Oct. 20, 2009.
Stevenson advances the ECAC South championship game on Sunday where it will play Grove City after the Wolverines posted a 1-0 victory over Misericordia in today's second semifinal contest.
Otto had a hand in the Mustangs' first three goals as they built a 3-0 in the first 23 minutes. They opened the scoring in the 11th minute when senior Tyler King (Parkville/Calvert Hall) scored his sixth goal of the season from three yards out off a feed from Otto at 10:40.
Otto then scored back-to-back goals just 1:38 apart to push the lead to 3-0, the last of which came on a pass from King who returned the favor at 22:55.
Junior Justin Carver (Manchester/North Carroll) capped the first half scoring with his third goal of the year and second in the last five games at 35:32 on a set-up from junior Josh Danza (Pasadena/Archbishop Spaulding).
Stevenson controlled the game throughout, outshooting the Bison 14-11, including 10-4 in the first half while holding a commanding 12-1 advantage in corner kicks in the opening half.
The second half was highlighted by thge first collegiate goals for both freshman Evan Heskiel (Owings Mills/Family Foundation School) and freshman A.J. Berry (Manchester/North Carroll). Heskiel also picked up his second career point with an assist on Berry's tally at 76:10.
Otto, who totaled his fifth multi-goal game of the season and the seventh of his career, now has 48 points on 18 goals and 12 assists this season, making him Division III's leading scorer, two points ahead of Ramapo's Rob Santaniello who had 46 in 18 games.
Junior Ryan Flannelly (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) made two first half saves to earn his 12th win of the season.
