senior Tyler King
(Parkville/Calvert Hall) scored the sixth game-winning
goal of his career in the 85th minute on Senior Day to lead the
Mustangs to a 2-1 victory over Mary Washington Friday at Caves
Athletics Complex, securing them a spot in the CAC Men's Soccer
Championship.
With the win, Stevenson (10-5-1, 3-3-1 CAC) earned its
second-straight appearance in the conference tournament and its
second consecutive 10-win season. As a result, the Mustangs will
play in the first round of the CAC Men's Soccer Championship
Sunday, October 31, but opponent, location and game times are yet
to be determined.
After a scoreless and uneventful first half, the action picked
up in the second as both teams combined for three goals, 15 shots,
11 fouls, seven corner kicks and three yellow cards.
T.L. Tutor scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season in
the 52nd minute before freshman Josh Stover (West
Friendship/Marriotts Ridge) tied the game 16 minutes later
with his fifth of the year off an assist from sophomore Ryan Pierce
(Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) who picked up his
first point of the season.
King then scored the game-winner to extended his point streak to
three games with his third goal of the season off an assist from
sophomore Ansger Otto
(Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) to improve Stevenson's
record to 7-1-1 at home in 2010.
Junior Ryan Flannelly
(Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) picked up his ninth win after
making four saves, three of which came in the first half, while
Alec Constantine had five for the Eagles (7-5-2, 2-3-1 CAC).
Stevenson wraps up the regular season next Wednesday, October 27
with a CAC contest versus Frostburg State at home beginning at 3:30
p.m.
