HARRISBURG, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg scored
the game's first three goals in the game's first 46 minutes and
held on for a 3-1 victory over the Stevenson men's soccer team
Tuesday night in a non-conference contest.
It was the second-straight non-conference loss for the Mustangs
(9-5-1) after the team started the season with six consecutive wins
against non-CAC opponents. It was also their fourth loss in five
road games this season.
Senior Matthew Liska
(Perry Hall/Archbishop Curley) scored Stevenson's lone
goal off an assist from senior Tyler King
(Parkville/Calvert Hall) in the 64th minute to prevent the
shutout as the Mustangs were outshot, 21-9.
It was the third goal of the season for Liska, all of which have
come in the last six games where he has totaled eight points while
King picked up his third assist in the last two contests and is now
second on the team with three.
Stevenson is 2-2 against the Nittany Lions (10-3-1) since 2007
with both losses coming on the road. Last year, six different
Mustangs scored in a 6-1 victory at home on Sept. 15, 2009.
Junior Ryan Flannelly
(Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) finished with six saves in
just over 52 minutes before giving way to freshman Alex Zeidler
(Woodstown, N.J./Woodstown) who made his fourth appearance
of the season. Sophomore Cory Spindler
(Sykesville/Century) played the final 22 minutes totaling
two saves.
Stevenson concludes the regular season with the first of
back-to-back home games on Friday when it hosts Mary Washington
beginning at 3:00 p.m. Prior to the game, the Mustangs will honor
its four seniors in Liska, King, Sean
Scarselletta (Severna Park/Severna Park) and
Justin
Bean (Silver Spring/Paint Branch).
