FREDERICK, Md. - Five different players scored,
including senior Sean
Scarselletta (Severna Park/Severna Park) who netted
his first goal of the season, as the Stevenson men's soccer team
remained unbeaten in four out of its last five games with a 3-1 CAC
road win over Hood Friday at Thomas Athletic Field.
The win moved the Mustangs (9-4-1, 2-3-1 CAC) into fourth place
in the CAC standings with two conference games remaining and was
their first in four road games this season.
Scarselletta opened the scoring in the 15th minute when he
scored off a double assist from senior Matthew Liska
(Perry Hall/Archbishop Curley) and senior Tyler King
(Parkville/Calvert Hall).
King picked up his second assist just 10 minutes later when he
found freshman Josh Stover (West
Friendship/Marriotts Ridge) for his fourth goal of the
season and third in his last four games.
Stevenson, who had a 10-2 edge in shots in the first half, held
its two-goal lead late into the second half until sophomore
Ansger
Otto (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) added his
CAC-leading 14th goal of the season in the 71st minute to increase
the advantage to 3-0.
The Blazers (6-7, 2-4 CAC) scored their lone goal on a penalty
kick in the 84th minute, snapping an attempt by junior Ryan
Flannelly (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) for his second
shutout of the season. After the goal, Flannelly was issued his
first yellow card.
Flannelly finished with four saves, including three in the
second half while William Lane had six for Hood.
