OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Mary Washington's Duke
Mensah-Abrampah scored the game's only goal in the 49th minute as
the Eagles won a tough, physical game with a 1-0 victory over
Stevenson Wednesay afternoon in a CAC contest at Caves Athletics
Complex.
The loss was just the second in the last eight games at home for
the Mustangs (5-6, 1-2 CAC) and second this season after they
started the year 4-0.
Meanwhile, the Eagles (8-3, 4-0 CAC), ranked 10th in this week's
NSCAA South Atlantic Region rankings, remained atop the CAC
standings, a half-game ahead of York (Pa.) and one in front of
Salisbury.
Wednesday's game featured 25 total fouls and two yellow cards
and was scoreless for the first 48 minutes until Mensah-Abrampah
headed a sweeping cross off the foot of Ryan Taibl from the right
corner that cleared the width of the penalty box inside the far
post.
It was Mensah-Abrampah's third goal of the season and first
game-winner. It was also the second time that Taibl had been
involved in a game-winner this month after he scored in the 98th
minute of Mary Washington's 3-2 home win over McDaniel on September
6.
The Eagles held a slight edge in shots and a 9-3 advantage in
corner kicks.
Sophomore Ryan Flannelly (Middlesex,
N.J./Middlesex) finished with five saves for the Mustangs
while the team was credited with a sixth save in the sixth minute
after Brooks Kyker (Westminster/Westminster)
prevented the Eagles from scoring on the doorstep early.
Stevenson hosts a non-conference contest with Rutgers-Camden on
