STEVENSON, Md. - Stevenson sophomore
Brittany Ross (Millersville/Severna Park) and
freshman Lauren Weitzman (Westminster/Winters
Mill) combined for six saves and a shutout as the Mustangs
opened the 2009 season with a 0-0 tie against Bridgewater (Va.)
Tuesday evening at Greenspring Field.
Stevenson (0-0-1) is unbeaten in its last five regular-season
games, going 3-0-2, and has not lost at home in its last four at
home.
Bridgwater held an 11-9 edge in shots, but totaled nine of those
shots in the first half and second overtime. The Eagles outshot the
Mustangs 6-2 in the opening half, but were held scoreless thanks to
four saves from Ross who led the CAC in saves percentage last
season.
As a team, Stevenson ranked second in the conference with nine
shutouts a year ago and have allowed just one goal in its last five
games at home.
The Mustang defense held Bridgewater to just two shots over the
next two periods before Weitzman came up with two saves on three
Eagles attempts in the second overtime to keep the game scoreless.
Cari Hensley played all 110 minutes in goal for Bridgewater
(0-1), making four saves, all of which came in regulation where she
faced seven shots.
Stevenson will look for its first win of the season on Saturday
when it travels to Virginia Wesleyan for the Orthopaedic Classic.
Game time between the Marlins and Mustangs is at 3:00 p.m.
