GLEN BURNIE, Md. - Mike Dombrosky scattered six
hits over six innings while surrendering just two earned runs to
lead Wesley to a 10-6 victory over the Stevenson University
baseball team on Wednesday at Bachman Sports Complex, snapping the
Mustangs' seven-game CAC winning streak.
The loss also ended a six-game home winning streak for Stevenson
(10-6, 6-1 CAC) who left 11 runners on base and went 2-for-13 with
runners in scoring position.
The Wolverines (12-8-1, 4-5 CAC) scored all 10 of their runs in
the first five innings where they totaled 11 of their 12 hits and
took advantage of six walks and three hit batsmen.
Kevin Murphy went 4-for-5 with five RBIs and two runs to
lead Wesley offensively while Geoff Kimmel went 2-for-5 with two
RBIs.
Murphy and Kimmel both picked up RBI singles in the top of the
first as the Wolverines took a 2-0 lead before Murphy added two
more on an RBI single in the second to increase the lead to 4-1.
The Mustangs scored two runs in the bottom of the third
to cut their deficit to 6-4 on RBIs by junior
George Papuchis (Damascus/Good Counsel) and junior
Dan Leonard (Cambridge/South Dorchester).
Kimmel added another RBI single in the fourth before the
Wolverines took a 10-4 lead with three runs in the top of the
fifth, two of which came on a two-run single by Murphy.
Junior Derrick Nason (Catonsville/Reservoir)
suffered his first loss in four starts this season after allowing
six earned runs on five hits and three walks with a hit batsmen.
Kyle McGuire picked up his first save of the year for Wesley to
help a pitching staff that used six pitchers in a 9-4,
14-inning win at Haverford on Tuesday. He surrendered
just one run over the final three innings while scattering four
hits.
Papuchis and senior Wade Keenan
(Eldersburg/Liberty) each finished 3-for-5 with
Papuchis adding a run and an RBI and Keenan lacing a two-out
triple to right in the eighth.
Stevenson returns to action on Thursday, hosting a nine-inning,
non-conference contest with Frostburg State beginning at 3:30 p.m.
