ARLINGTON, Va. - Senior Katie Decker
(White Hall/Hereford) totaled a goal and three assists
while sophomore Stephanie Eyler
(Thurmont/Catoctin) posted her fourth career hat trick to
lead the Stevenson women's soccer team to a 7-0 road victory over
Marymount (Va.) Wednesday night in a CAC contest.
The win was the third-straight for the Mustangs (7-3-1, 2-1 CAC)
who remained in the NSCAA South Atlantic Region rankings for third
consecutive week despite playing just one game last week. The team
moved back up to No. 9 which is where it debuted back on September
22.
Stevenson scored five of its season-high seven goals in the
first half after holding an 11-5 edge in shots. The seven goals
were the team's highest output since a 9-0 victory at Gallaudet on
Oct. 16, 2008.
Decker had a hand in each of the Mustangs' first three goals,
assisting on the first two and scoring the third to give them a 3-0
lead less than 15 minutes in.
Decker set up Eyler's sixth of the season in the 10th minute
before assisting on the second goal of the season
for junior Heather Redding (Street/North
Harford) just two minutes later. Decker then tallied
her second goal of the year at 14:32.
Redding added her second of the game in the 22nd minute on an
assist from sophomore Samantha Novy (Severna Park/Severna
Park) before Eyler added her second in the 24th to give
Stevenson a 5-0 halftime lead.
Eyler, who now has eight goals this season and 30 in only 31
career games, had an unassisted tally in the 72nd minute and Novy
capped the scoring with her third of the season on a feed from
Decker in the 82nd.
Freshman Lauren Weitzman (Westminster/Winters
Mills) made three first half saves in her fifth start
before sophomore Brittany Ross (Millersville/Severna
Park) totaled four in the second half.
Gaby Prellezo had three saves to lead the Saints (0-10, 0-3
CAC), but allowed five goals in 37-plus minutes. Lauren Sanders
allowed two while making one save over the final 53 minutes.
Stevenson hosts Gallaudet in a CAC contest at Caves Athletics
Complex on Saturday. Game time is at noon.
