SALISBURY, Md. - Salisbury's two leading
scorers, Nick Malone and Kyle Sterling, each had a goal and an
assist in the second half to lead the Sea Gulls' men's soccer team
to a 4-0 victory over Stevenson in a CAC contest Wednesday
afternoon at the SU Soccer Complex.
The win was the second in the last five games for Salisbury
(9-2-1, 3-0-1 CAC) who was ranked fifth in the latest NSCAA South
Atlantic Region poll released on Tuesday.
The Sea Gulls led just 1-0 after the first 45 minutes before
totaling three goals in the second half, including two in a span of
48 seconds.
Morgan Hunt scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 39th
minute after gaining control of a loose ball and scoring his third
goal of the season from the top of the left box.
Stevenson (5-8, 1-3 CAC), who was without three of its usual
starters, was outshot 16-3, including 9-1 in the second half.
Freshman Greg Coard (Timonium/Dulaney) also made
his first career start in goal for the Mustangs where he totaled
three saves in 64 minutes while allowing three goals.
Benjamin Reed scored the Sea Gulls' second goal at 51:00 off an
assist from Malone before Sterling scored his team-leading ninth of
the season at 51:48 to increase the lead to 3-0.
Malone then capped the scoring in the 66th minute with his
seventh goal, the second-most on the team behind Sterling. Sterling
leads the team with 21 points this season while Malone has 18.
Freshmen Cory Spindler (Sykesville/Century) and
John Leimbach (Cheverly/Bishop McNamara) also saw
action in goal for Stevenson.
The Mustangs look to snap their four-game losing streak and
four-game road skid on Saturday when they travel to Marymount (Va.)
for a CAC contest beginning at 7:30 p.m.
