OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Seven different players
accounted for all seven goals, including junior Tyler King
(Parkville/Calvert Hall) who had a career-high four
points with a goal and two assists, as the Stevenson men's
soccer team won its third-straight with a 7-0 victory over Hood in
a CAC contest Tuesday at Caves Athletics Complex.
With the win, the Mustangs (8-8, 3-3 CAC) evened their record at
.500 and moved into fifth place in the conference standings, a
half-game ahead of Marymount (Va.) with two conference games
remaining. The top six teams advance to the CAC Men's Soccer
Championship.
King was one of four players who scored their first goal of the
season as his first goal in the 12th minute off an assist from
sophomore Josh Danza (Pasadena/Archbishop
Spaulding) proved to be the game-winner.
Less than five minutes after his own goal, King picked up his
second assist of the season on a feed to freshman Ryan
Pierce (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) at 16:21.
King was also one of four players who scored at least three
points as Danza, freshman Ansger Otto (Willingboro,
N.J./Willingboro) and sophomore Chris Sokolis
(Perry Hall/Perry Hall) each had three points with a
goal and one assist.
Stevenson led 4-0 at the half after Otto's team-leading sixth
goal and the second of the year from freshman Bradley Davis
(Perry Hall/Archbishop Curley).
All three of the Mustangs' second half goals came on the first
goal of the season from Danza, Sokolis and freshman Matthew
Liska (Baltimore/Archbishop Curley). Liska's first career
goal came after the ball deflected into the net on a shot from
freshman Chris Contino (Middlesex,
N.J./Middlesex). King was also credited with an assist on
the play.
Stevenson's seven goals were the team's most since an 8-0
victory over Gallaudet in the final game of last season on Oct. 30,
2008. Today also marked the fourth time this season that the
Mustangs totaled at least five goals in a game.
Sophomore Ryan Flannelly (Middlesex,
N.J./Middlesex) was one of five keepers to see action in
the game, playing the entire first half and extending his scoreless
streak to 356 minutes, not counting the team's own goal in a 1-0
loss to Rutgers-Camden.
Freshman John Leimbach (Cheverly/Bishop
McNamara) registered the team's only save in the game's
80th minute.
William Lane made seven saves for Hood (2-12, 0-6 CAC) who
suffered its fifth-straight loss.
Stevenson travels to Wesley on Saturday for a 6:00 p.m., contest
with the Wolverines.
