ARLINGTON, Va. - Stevenson men's soccer
sophomore Ryan Brost (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell
Valley) scored the game-winning goal in the 12th minute
and sophomore Ryan Flannelly (Middlesex,
N.J./Middlesex) made six saves as the Mustangs earned
their second CAC victory with a 2-0 win over Marymount (Va.)
Saturday night.
The win against the fourth-place Saints snapped a four-game
losing streak for the Mustangs (6-8, 2-3 CAC) and moved them
into sixth in the conference standings, one game
ahead of St. Mary's (Md.) for the final playoff spot.
Brost picked up his second game-winner and fourth goal of the
season in the 12th minute off an assist from junior
Tyler King (Parkville/Calvert Hall) to give
Stevenson a 1-0 lead. The assist was the first point of the
season in 14 games for King who led the team with six goals and 13
points a year ago.
The goal by Brost would prove to be the only one of the game
until the 84th minute when sophomore Kyle Baker
(Mitchellville/Bowie) added an insurance tally to give the
Mustangs their third shutout of the season.
Baker's goal was his fourth of the year, tying him with Brost
for second on the team. The two are also tied for second on the
team in scoring with nine points each.
Four of Flannelly's six saves came in the first half as he
earned his second career shutout.
William Brahmstedt had five saves to lead the Saints
(7-5-1, 3-2 CAC).
Stevenson wraps up its three-game road trip with a
non-conference contest at Neumann on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
