SALISBURY, Md. - Stevenson University women's
soccer freshman Brittany Ross (Millersville/Severna
Park) made five saves to lead the Mustangs' defensive
effort as they battled 2007 CAC runner-up Salisbury to a
0-0 tie Saturday in their CAC opener.
The tie was the second in the last four games for Stevenson
(5-2-2, 0-0-1 CAC) who played to a 1-1 tie at Frostburg State last
Saturday.
Meanwhile, it was the third tie in eight games this season for
the Sea Gulls (3-2-3, 1-0-1 CAC) who was the top-seed in last
year's CAC Women's Soccer Championship and finished the season with
a 14-4-1 record.
The Mustangs had a chance to take a 1-0 lead in the 62nd minute,
but a shot by freshman Stephanie Eyler
(Thurmont/Catoctin), the CAC's leading scorer with nine
goals and 23 points, hit the post and was cleared out by the Sea
Gull defense.
Salisbury held a slim 11-9 egde in shots while both teams each
had three corners. Gena Goodson made three saves for the Sea
Gulls who picked up their fourth shutouts this season.
Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Juniata
at the Caves Complex beginning at 4:00 p.m. The game will mark the
first of three-straight non-conference contests for the Mustangs
before they return to conference play versus Wesley on October 4.
Meanwhile, Salisbury travels to York on Wednesday in a rematch
of last year's conference championship game.
