Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson University
field hockey team scored three first half goals and used 24 players
as the Mustangs won their third game out of five this season, 4-0
over Cedar Crest Saturday afternoon at the Caves Complex.
It was the second shutout this season for Stevenson (3-2) who
outshot the Falcons 29-2 and held an 18-1 advantage in penalty
corners.
Freshman Kelli Battista (Elkridge/Long Reach)
led the Mustangs offensively, scoring a career-high three points
with one goal and one assist. She scored the game's first
goal, unassisted, less than 13 minutes into the game on what
proved to be the game-winner, her second in as many games. Last
Sunday, Battista scored her first career goal in overtime to
give Stevenson a 2-1 win over Randolph-Macon.
Just 1:27 later, Battista assisted junior Margaret Wolfe
(Baltimore/Perry Hall) to give the Mustangs a 2-0 lead on
Wolfe's second goal of the season.
Senior Krissy Leventis
(Baltimore/Lutheran) would later score off an
assist from senior Cat Connelly
(Fallston/Fallston) with less than 13 minutes remaining in
the first half. The goal gave Stevenson a 3-0 lead and
was the team-leading third goal of the season for Leventis and
the team-leading third assist for Connelly.
Cedar Crest (0-3) did not manage a shot in the first
half against Mustang sophomore Kara Zimmerman
(Odenton/Arundel). Over the last four games, Zimmerman has
allowed just two goals in a span of 256:57 for a miniscule
0.54 goals against average. She also made 15 saves during that time
for an .882 saves percentage.
In the second half, sophomore Victoria Wolfe
(Baltimore/Perry Hall) and freshman Megan Sadowski
(Fallston/Fallston) saw their first action of the season
with Wolfe making one save in 25 minutes before giving way to
Sadowski.
Meanwhile, Rachel Orlen made 13 saves for the Falcons.
The highlight of the second half came with less than three
minutes remaining when sophomore Alana Warren
(Baltimore/Perry Hall) scored her first career goal in her
first game of the season. She appeared in seven games last season
for the Mustangs, but did not register and points.
Stevenson will face a tough test at home on Sunday as it
welcomes No. 18 Lynchburg for a 2:00 p.m., contest at
the Caves Complex. On Saturday, the Hornets lost a hard-fought
2-1 decision to No. 10 Johns Hopkins at Stevenson.
