Frostburg, MD - The Villa Julie College baseball team traveled
to Frostburg to compete in their final regular season double
header. The Mustangs would split the series against the Bobcats,
winning 1-0 then falling 7-1 in a rain shortened five innings.
Junior Wade Keenan (5-2) pitched a gem today in
the 1-0 win over Frostburg State. Keenan threw his first
shutout of the season pitching 7 innings allowing just 2 hits while
striking out 9. The lone Mustang run came after a series of
singles by Sophomore George Papuchis, Junior
Griffin Stewart, and Freshman Dustin
Tarlow. Freshman Nick Syndor came
threw with a sacrifice fly to centerfield plating
Papuchis. That run would stand up as
Keenan broke the career strikeout record with
number 185, and extended it by finishing the game with 186 in his
career. This ended a successful week for Keenan,
who was also named to the All-CAC first team.
Game 2 was a tough one to swallow for Senior Phil
Kraska (2-1) making the final start of his career at Villa
Julie. Kraska suffered the loss after
allowing 7 runs, 2 earned in 3 innings worth of work. After
committing 4 errors in the 2nd inning, the Bobcats were able to
plate 6 runs and put the game away as it was rain shortened to 5
innings.
Seniors Buddy Breidenbaugh, Jimmy
Smith, Nick Deaner, Alex
Laddbush, Phil Kraska, and John
Jilek all completed their regular season careers with
Villa Julie. This class has won 100 games in the last 4
seasons and will graduate as the most winningest class in the short
9 year history of the Villa Julie Mustangs after 4 straight seasons
above .500 (25-20, 29-16, 24-22, 22-21).
