Glen Burnie, MD - On a clear and warm spring day, the Mustangs
showed up to play and defeated conference rival York College 7-2 in
CAC action. This was an important win for the Mustangs as they
battle it out with York for a higher seeding in the playoffs. The
Mustangs and Spartan's will continue their series this weekend when
the two meet at York for a series deciding double-header.
The Mustangs started slowly with th bat, allowing York to
open up the scoring in the 2nd inning scoring on consecutive
doubles. The Mustangs responded in the 4th on a 2 run single
by Junior Bryan Chouinard (Hereford, MD/Hereford).
In the 4th the Mustangs tacked on another run after doubles by
Junior Brett Steele (Arnold,
MD/Broadneck) and Junior Griffin Stewart (Bel
Air, MD/Bel Air).
York would not go down without a fight and made it a 1
run game until the 8th when the Mustangs exploded with the
bat, putting up a 4 spot thanks in part to a 3 run triple by
Junior Wade Keenan (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty).
On the mound, Sophomore Derrick Nason (Catonsville,
MD/Resevoir) pitched 6 1/3 innings scattering 8 hits
and 2 earned runs to pick up his 5th victory of the season.
Junior Chris Hayden (Chopticon,
MD/Chopticon) pitched 2 2/3 outstanding innings
allowing 1 hit on 2 K's to pick up his 2nd save of the season.
Offensively, Keenan was 3-5 with a triple
and 3 RBI's, and Stewart 3-4 with an RBI.
The Mustangs have little rest as they are back in action on
Thursday at Johns Hopkins in non-conference action at 3pm and play
York for two on Saturday in the final CAC action of the season.
