Winchester, VA - The Villa Julie College baseball team traveled
to Virginia to take on non-conference opponent Shenandoah
University. The Mustangs dropped both games, 4-3 and 8-4.
In game 1, the Mustangs could only muster 3 runs on 6 hits in a
well pitched game on both sides. Mustang starter, Junior
Ryan Baione, pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up 3
earned runs. However, the Hornets scored one in the bottom of the
7th to win the game in their last at bat, which makes the Mustangs
1-7 on the season in 1 run games. Senior Jimmy
Smith was 2-3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI's.
Game 2 opened up with the Mustangs scoring 3 in the first inning
thanks to a double by Junior Wade Keenan, and a 2
run single by Baione. It looked as if the Mustangs
offense, which is averaging more than 10 runs a game, had woken up.
We were mistaken as the offense only mustered 2 more hits for the
rest of the game. Keenan went 2-3 with a double
and an RBI, with Senior Buddy
Breidenbaugh going 2-2 with 2 doubles.
The Mustangs are back in action for Senior Day at home on
Tuesday at 6 pm. The Mustangs will be honoring their 6
seniors: Nick Deaner, Jimmy
Smith, Phil Kraska, John
Jilek, Buddy Breidenbaugh, and
Alex Laddbush.
