Glen Burnie, MD - The Mustang Baseball Team was looking to
continue where it left off from the weekend wins over Gallaudet
University when they faced conference rival the University of Mary
Washington.
The Mustangs came out of the gate on fire scoring 5 runs in the
first inning and taking a commanding 5-1 lead. However, UMW
continued to chip away at the lead until they tied the game in
the top of the 6th by scoring 3 runs. Then in the top of the
7th they took a commanding lead by scoring 4 more times.
In the bottom of the 9th the Mustangs had 2 runners on base and
the tying run at the plate with 2 home run threats, but
the UMW relief pitcher Seth Kaas struck out the last 2 to end
the game at 10-7 in favor of the Eagles. Offensively, Junior
Griffin Stewart was 3-4 with 2 RBI's and a home
run, Sophomore George Papuchis was 3-5 with 2 2B's
and an RBI. Both Junior Wade Keenan and
Freshman Kyle Van Beek added 2 hits as Keenan
chipped in 2 RBI's as well.
The Mustangs will be looking for revenge as they are back in
action on Saturday on the road against the Eagles for a
Double-Header starting at 12pm.
