Glen Burnie, MD - In a must win game for the Villa Julie
Baseball team and for the 4th time in 8 days the Mustangs and the
Spartans faced off. The Mustangs would prevail 6-4, beating York
three times out of four games this season. With the
loss, York is eliminated from the CAC Tournament leaving
the Mustangs to battle it out on Saturday with the other CAC
Contenders at Salisbury University. The win
today was sweet revenge for the Mustangs, as York had ended
Villa's season last year in the second round of the NCAA
Regionals.
Sophomore starting pitcher John Jackson pitched
6 innings allowing 4 runs to earn his 4th victory of the season.
Junior Chris Hayden pitched 2 scoreless innings
and Junior Wade Keenan picked up the save pitching
a scoreless 9th with 1 strikeout.
York jumped out to a 4 run lead after scoring 3 in the 3rd.
The Mustangs battled back with 2 in the bottom of the 3rd,
and 3 more in the bottom of the 5th to take the lead for good.
After a triple by Keenan, the Mustangs
tacked on the extra run on a sacrifice fly by Senior Buddy
Breidenbaugh in the bottom of the 7th. Offensively,
Keenan finished 3-4 with an RBI, Senior
Jimmy Smith finished 2-4 with 2 RBI's.
The Mustangs return to the field on Saturday at Salisbury, and
will play at 12:30 vs Wesley College with the winner advancing and
the loser going home. The Winner of the VJC vs WC game will
play at 4pm on Saturday against the loser of
the Salisbury vs University of Mary Washington game.
