OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Sophomore Allison
Humphries (Bel Air/John Carroll) tallied one goal and one
assist as the Stevenson University women's soccer team picked up
its CAC-best eighth win of the season and stayed unbeaten in
conference play with a 2-0 victory over Hood Tuesday at the Caves
Complex.
Both team's entered Tuesday's contest with a conference-leading
seven victories.
The win also moved the Mustangs (8-4-2, 2-0-1 CAC) into
second place in the CAC, a half-a-game ahead of Salisbury while
improving head coach Graeme Millar's record to 16-15-2 in two
seasons at Stevenson.
The Mustangs dominated the game, outshooting the Blazers
(7-5-1, 3-3 CAC) 35-6 while holding an 11-1 edge in corner kicks.
Freshman Stephanie Eyler (Thurmont/Catoctin)
scored her 15th goal of the season exactly 18 minutes in when she
scored off an assist from Humphries, extending her lead in the CAC
to five over Sophia Esparza and Lauren Carrier of St. Mary's (Md.).
Eyler has scored at least one goal in nine out of 14 games this
season, including the last three-straight. She currently leads the
CAC in points, goals and game-winning goals.
Humphries then netted her second goal of the year in the 33rd
minute to give the Mustangs a 2-0 lead which proved to be enough as
freshman Brittany Ross (Millersville/Severna Park)
needed to make just one save to pick up her eighth win in 11 starts
this season.
Stevenson will put its three-game CAC unbeaten streak on the
line on Saturday when it travels to first place St. Mary's (Md.).
Game time is at noon.
