Clarks Summit , PA - Villa Julie College
defeated Baptist Bible College 13-1 and 6-1 in a NEAC baseball
doubleheader Saturday. The Mustangs improve to 21-12 overall
and 14-1 in the NEAC while the Defenders fall to 11-15 overall and
7-9 in the conference.
In the afternoon's first game the Mustangs used the long ball to
open a commanding lead by the fourth inning. Ryan
Baione homered to left center in the second, adding two
runs to their one run first inning total and take a 3-0 lead.
In the third inning Villa Julie tacked on two more with
Buddy Breidenbaugh's two run home run.
Baione then went to right center in the fourth for
his second two run homer of the game. Villa Julie led 7-0.
Baptist Bible would get their only run in the fifth off of the
bat of Tom Krick, a single that drove in Zach Dawson who doubled
three batters earlier.
The Mustangs would not allow the game to get any closer and
tacked on six more before the end of the game finishing up
13-1.
Phil Kraska allowed only three Defender
hits going the distance and improving his record to 3-1.
In the second game, the Mustangs took advantage of bases on
balls and used and error and a sacrifice fly to score two runs
without a hit.
Baptist Bible responded in the bottom of the inning on Matt
Mowry's one out RBI single that scored Zach Dawson from
third. After one inning of play the Defenders trailed 2-1.
With two on and one out in the fourth, Ryan
Baione singled in Brett Sanders and
Dave Brown from second and third base respectively
to put the Mustangs up 4-1. They would add on two more in the
fifth to cap the scoring and lead 6-1 to close the game.
John Jilik went the distance for Villa
Julie and improved his record to 2-0 on the season.
The Mustangs will travel to LaPlume , PA tomorrow to take
on Keystone College at 1:00 pm which proves to be a showdown for
first place in the NEAC.
