Greensboro, NC.- Villa beat Guilford 6-3
despite stranding 12 runners on base. The win improves Villa
Julie to 2-4 overall.
Villa compiled a 14 hit attack including three homeruns to
defeat Guilford at Guilford on Thursday afternoon. Guilford
took an early 1-0 lead in the 3rd and held that lead until the 4th
when freshman Brian Moran (Sherwood) hit a 2 run
Homerun. Villa scored 2 more the following inning and held a
4-1 lead until the eigth when Guilford put 1 run on the board
thanks to a solo homerun.
In the top of the ninth, junior Buddy
Breidenbaugh (Perry Hall), and senior Kevin
Rodgers (Great Mills) hit back to back solo Homeruns to
give the Mustangs a 6-2 lead, when Villa brought in their closer Jr
Alex Laddbush to finish the game. Despite a few control
problems, Alex finished with 2 strikeouts while allowing 1 run on
no hits.
Senior Garrett Sanders (Ceasar Rodney
(DE)), through 8 innings allowed 7 hits and 2 earned runs
enroute to his 2nd victory of the season, and his 15th of his
career, breaking the VJC record set by former Mustang Justin
McKeever.
Sophomore Ryan Baione (Westlake) finished the
day 3-5, Brian Moran 3-5, 1 HR, and 3 RBI's,
Kevin Rodgers 3-5 1 HR, 1 RBI,
and Buddy Breidenbaugh 3-5, 1HR, 1 RBI were
the offensive stars on the day.
Villa's game versus Washington & Lee has been postponed, and
no make up date has been announced. Weather permitting, the
Mustangs are at home versus Catholic on Saturday at noon.
