In one of the greatest upsets in Villa Julie Men's Soccer
History the Mustangs overpowered University of Mary Washington in a
2-0 win. Mary Washington entered the field undefeated in the CAC,
until the Mustangs tallied the first loss for them.
Villa Julie's Brent Woolford (Pasadena,
MD/Northeast) scored the first goal for the Mustangs at
the 67:43 mark off a pass from Joel
Mansker (Ocean City, MD/Stephen Decatur).
Craig Remenapp (Millersville, MD/Old Mill) ensured
the lead for the Mustangs as he scored a goal assisted by
Marios Loizou (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial).
Freshman Justin Bean (Silver Spring, MD/Paint
Branch) led the Mustangs defensively, managing to remove
the ball from the goalie's box many times, preventing
multiple Mary Washington shots. Defenseman Ryan Payne
(Millersville, MD/Old Mill) made a crucial save for the
team when the Eagles had an open shot at the center of the goal,
heading the ball straight out.
Senior goalkeeper Eric Lowman
(Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) showed the
shot-stopping skills that earned him 1st team all-conference in the
NEAC last year by tallying 18 saves and shutting out the
Eagles.
With the win, the Mustangs improve their record to 5-6-1 (2-2),
while Mary Washington falls to 8-3 (3-1).
The Mustangs return to the field on October 6 when they host Hood
College at 1:00.
