Arlington, VA - The Villa Julie Men's Soccer team overcame a
stubborn Marymount side in overtime to record their fourth CAC win
of the season. The Mustangs were a goal down after only 11 minutes
but bounced back to record a very important 2-1 overtime win. The
Mustangs record improves to 4-3 in the conference, which leaves
them tied for fourth in the standings.
With only 11 minutes gone in the game, Marymount player Paul
Decker gave MU a 1-0 lead when he scored off a pass from Alex
Lubinsky. The first half was closely contested with Marymount
holding the advantage in shots 10-5. The Mustangs would make one of
those five shots count in the 42nd minute when sophomore
Ben Topolski (Reisterstown, MD/St.
Paul's) scored his second goal of the season to tie
the game. The teams went scoreless in the second period
and were forced into overtime. Two minutes into the extra
period, Villa Julie got the gamewinner from sophomore Joel
Mansker (Ocean City, MD/Stephen Decatur). Goalkeeper
Eric Lowman (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) was
again superb in goal making eight saves to preserve the
win.
The Mustangs will play their last regular season away
game when they face off against conference foe Wesley College
on Saturday 20th October in a 1pm kick-off. The game will be both
teams last game in the conference.
