WESTMINSTER, MD - The Mustangs were held to a 1-1 draw against
non-conference opponent McDaniel College. After 90 minutes of
regulation and two overtime periods a winner could not be found in
a very closely contested match. Both teams scored their only
goals of the game in the last twelve minutes of regulation with the
Green Terror grabbing the lead before the Mustangs tied it up.
The
goal hero for the Mustangs was freshman Tyler King (Carney,
MD/Calvert Hall), scoring his third goal of the season.
After an even first half, the game exploded to life in the last
twelve minutes of the game. The Green Terror scored in the
78th minute and that goal looked like it would be enough
to give them the contest. But just over four minutes later, the
hard working Vinny Caltabiano (Lothian, MD/Mt. St.
Joseph) grabbed an assist by playing a centering pass off
a McDaniel defender and right to King, who blasted a shot from the
top of the box into the lower-left corner of the net to tie the
game at 1.
Neither team could find a breakthrough in the double overtime and
Villa Julie goalkeeper Adam Wiatrowski
(Baltimore, MD/Patapsco) helped keep the
score level by making seven stops in the game.
The Mustangs are straight back into action as they face CAC
opponent the University of Mary Washington on Wednesday
3rd October at Owings Mills in a 4pm kick-off.
