Owings Mills, MD- Top-seeded Villa Julie
scored three second half goals to lift the Mustangs' to a 3-0 win
over Bard in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Women's
Soccer semifinal game on Friday.
The win improves Villa Julie to 14-6 on the season, and propels
the Mustangs into Saturday's final where they will meet Purchase
College , who knocked off Keuka by a score of 1-0. Bard fell to
11-6-2 with the loss.
Tonia Cristino (Lancaster, PA / Hempfield)
netted the game-winner at the 65:09 mark. Collecting a Jackie
Hoffman cross, Cristino made a move around a challenging
Elizabeth Herber to break the scoreless deadlock.
15 minutes later, Kim Moxley (Westminster , MD
/ Westminster ) scored the first of her two insurance markers
scoring off the underside of the crossbar to finish a Villa Julie
free kick. Four minutes later, Moxley capitalized on a long
head-man pass off of the foot of Laura Robinson
(Westminster , MD / Westminster ).
A busy Herber turned away eight Villa shots, while Mustangs'
keeper, Casey Brown (Barnesville , MD /
Poolesville), stopped five Bard advances for her fifth shutout of
the season. The Mustangs' fired 17 shots to Bard's seven, and held
a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Villa takes its shot at the NEAC title on Saturday morning
against Purchase. The NEAC Championship game is slated for an 11:30
a.m. start.
