OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Stevenson University baseball erased an early deficit and used a four-run seventh inning to defeat Albright College, 8-5, in MAC Commonwealth action Friday afternoon. The Mustangs improved to 15-14 overall and 6-10 in conference play with the victory.
After trailing 2-0 through three innings, Stevenson got on the board in the fourth when Landon Richard delivered an RBI single to score Zach Mayza. Albright answered with two more runs in the fifth, but the Mustangs responded immediately with a three-run bottom half. Ben Vaughan drove in one run with a single before Shaun Rudick tied the game with a two-run base hit up the middle.
Albright briefly regained the lead in the seventh, but Stevenson erupted in the bottom of the inning. Rudick opened the rally with an RBI double, and Richard followed with a two-run single down the left field line to give the Mustangs the lead. Jaylon Surell added an RBI single later in the frame to cap the decisive four-run inning and extend the advantage to 8-5.
Richard paced Stevenson offensively, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Rudick finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Mayza scored three times and collected two hits, while Surell added two hits and two runs scored. The Mustangs totaled 12 hits in the win.
On the mound, Jake Treasure earned the win in relief, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Charlie Wentker also provided solid relief before Treasure closed the door over the final frames.
The Mustangs return to action tomorrow when they travel to Albright for a double header. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
