Frederick, Md. (February 4) – The Stevenson Mustangs battled from start to finish Wednesday night inside the Volpe Athletic Center, showing resilience and offensive firepower despite a high-scoring MAC Commonwealth matchup at No. 16 Hood. Stevenson placed four players in double figures and found rhythm from beyond the arc, but a fast-starting Blazer squad used timely runs to secure a 106–79 decision.
Hood struck first with a second-chance three-pointer, but the Mustangs answered quickly.
Kyle Luddy buried a triple from the wing off a kick-out from
Kole Beaman to tie the game early, setting the tone for Stevenson's perimeter attack. Beaman followed with a mid-range jumper and
Jelani Lee added a pull-up score to keep the Mustangs within a possession through the opening minutes.
As the half progressed, Stevenson continued to push the tempo. Luddy knocked down another three and
Myles Jackson converted inside off an offensive rebound to trim the deficit.
Solomon Lewis provided a spark off the bench with tough interior play, finishing through contact and keeping possessions alive on the glass. Late in the half, Jackson capped a quick burst with a transition three-pointer in the final seconds, sending the Mustangs into the break with momentum and a 31-point first half.
Out of halftime, Stevenson showed renewed energy. Jackson opened the scoring with another three, and Beaman began to heat up, attacking the paint and knocking down jumpers to chip away at the margin.
Kendall Seguignol added a second-chance bucket inside, while
Andre Brooks and Lewis combined for key rebounds and hustle plays that extended possessions.
Midway through the second half, the Mustangs found their best stretch. Luddy drained back-to-back threes from the corner and Brooks connected from deep on a kick-ahead pass to keep Stevenson within striking distance. Beaman continued to lead the charge offensively, mixing inside finishes with perimeter shots, while Lewis added free throws in transition.
Down the stretch, Stevenson kept competing, with Beaman closing strong by converting multiple late baskets and Luddy adding one more triple. The Mustangs finished with 13 made three-pointers and 79 total points, showcasing balanced scoring and determination against one of the conference's top teams.
Stevenson will look to carry that offensive momentum into its next contest when the Mustangs travel to Eastern on Saturday, February 7 for a 3:00 p.m. conference matchup.
