Saint Davids, Pa. (February 7) – The Stevenson men's basketball team battled down to the final possession Saturday afternoon at Eastern University Gymnasium, erasing a double-digit first-half deficit and briefly seizing the lead late before coming up just short in a hard-fought 64–61 MAC Commonwealth contest.
Eastern struck first and used an early surge to build momentum, but Stevenson answered with poise.
David Pridgen converted inside off a steal to get the Mustangs on the board, and
Myles Jackson followed with strong finishes at the rim to keep the game within reach. Despite steady interior defense from
Kyle Luddy, including multiple early blocks, the Eagles pieced together a late first-half run and carried a 33–23 edge into the break.
Out of halftime, Stevenson flipped the script.
The Mustangs attacked the paint and turned defense into offense. Pridgen scored on back-to-back possessions, Jackson drilled a step-back three, and
Jelani Lee knocked down a second-chance triple to ignite the bench. Minutes later,
Kole Beaman finished through contact and
Christian Jackson converted a fast-break layup to tie the game at 42–42, capping a relentless comeback effort.
With the pace quickening, both sides traded baskets. Lee slashed inside for another score, and
Andre Brooks buried a clutch three-pointer from the wing to pull Stevenson within one. Jackson continued to lead the charge, finishing through traffic and converting key second-chance points.
The breakthrough came with just under two minutes to play. After an offensive rebound, Jackson calmly knocked down a jumper to give the Mustangs a 55–54 advantage — their first lead of the afternoon — and swing the momentum squarely to the visitors.
Eastern answered at the line in the closing seconds, but Stevenson had opportunities down the stretch, battling until the final shot.
The Mustangs will look to carry that momentum into their next contest when they host York (Pa.) on Wednesday, February 11 at 7:00 p.m.
