Owings Mills, Md. (February 11) – The Stevenson men's basketball team delivered high-energy performance Wednesday night, battling York (Pa.) in a MAC Commonwealth showdown before narrowly falling, 87–85, in a game that came down to the final minutes.
York struck first, but Stevenson quickly settled in behind second-chance opportunities and strong work in the paint.
Kole Beaman ignited the early push with an offensive board and putback, while
David Pridgen and
Myles Jackson added timely buckets to keep the Mustangs within striking distance. Despite York's hot outside shooting, Stevenson stayed aggressive inside, scoring repeatedly at the rim to chip away at the deficit.
Midway through the first half, the Mustangs found their rhythm. Beaman knocked down a three and followed with another tough finish inside, sparking a run that trimmed the gap to two.
Noah Ihezue added a late triple, and Stevenson continued to capitalize on second chances, but York carried a 50–43 edge into halftime.
Out of the break, Stevenson responded with composure. Pridgen connected from deep off a Beaman assist, and
Myles Jackson converted through contact to bring the Mustangs within one possession.
Kendall Seguignol then buried a three-pointer from the wing to energize the home crowd as the Mustangs continued to trade blows.
The game tightened down the stretch. Ihezue drained another key three, Jackson attacked the paint for a pair of strong finishes, and Stevenson leaned on its depth as the bench provided a spark. The Mustangs controlled the glass for much of the night and piled up points in the paint and on second-chance opportunities to keep the pressure on.
York answered with timely shots in the final minutes, but Stevenson never let the margin grow. The Mustangs continued to fight to the horn, but was just short as a buzzard beater tip-in closed the came in favor of the Spartans 87-85.
Stevenson will host MAC Commonwealth action on Saturday, February 14, facing Messiah at 7:30 p.m.
