Mustangs Win 200-Yard Free Relay; Split Result Against Messiah, Cedar Crest

GRANTHAM, Pa. - Stevenson's 200-yard Freestyle Relay team grabbed the team's only event victory in their split result meet against Messiah and Cedar Crest. 

In the penultimate meet of the season, the Mustangs downed Cedar Crest 203-36, while MAC opponents, Messiah, defeated Stevenson 210.50-47.50.

James Riordon's team started the meet with two third-place results. Sydney Kawana, Sophia Schultze, Alexa Darak, and Laila Umrani-Sanders started the meet representing the Mustangs in the 400-yard Medley Relay. Denise Martinez took to the pool in the following event. in the 1000-yard Freestyle.

Charlotte Forte and Olivia Jansen competed in the third and fourth events of the meet. They both secured a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard Free and 100-yard Backstroke.

In the 100-yard Breaststroke, Hailey Buenemann was the highest finishing Mustang. Her performance was followed by Umrani-Sanders setting a personal best in the 200-yard Butterfly, swimming a 2:37.70.

Forte returned to the pool and grabbed a joint third-place result in the 50-yard Free. Her time of 27.64 set a new personal best.

Umrani Sanders competed for Stevenson in the 100-yard Free and finished the highest of the four competing Mustangs.

In the 200-yard Back, Darak secured second place for the Mustangs with a time of 2:27.37.

Schultze finished fourth in the 200-yard Breast, while Forte, in the next event, grabbed another second place for Stevenson in the 500-yard Free, swimming a 5:41.18.

Eryn O'Brien and Buenemann were the highest-placed Mustangs in the 100-yard Fly and 200-yard Individual Medley. O'Brien swam a 1:15.28 and set a new personal best in the 100-yard Fly.

Stevenson concluded the meet with a victory in the 200-yard Free Relay. Martinez, Darak, Schultze, and Umrani-Sanders swam a 1:49.47.

The Mustangs host a Last Chance Qualifier meet on January 31 at the Rosenberg Aquatic Center. That meet will be the final opportunity for competing swimmers to qualify for the MAC Championships taking place from February 12 to 15.
