Martinez Secures Two Victories; Mustangs Triumph Over Hood, Lebanon Valley

FREDERICK, Md. - Denise Martinez added two more collegiate victories as the Mustangs surpassed Hood College and Lebanon Valley College, but fell short against York College (Pa.).

Stevenson defeated Maryland MAC foe, Hood, for the second time this season, 194-56, and split their results against Lebanon Valley, 196-53 and York, 162-98.

Martinez was the lead off leg in the opening event of the quad meet, the 200-yard Medley Relay. Sophia Schultze, Alexa Darak, and Laila Umrani-Sanders joined Martinez in claiming first place with a time of 2:00.70.

Charlotte Forte, this week's MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week, finished third in the 1000-yard Freestyle and finished with an 11:52.97.

Martinez returned to the pool alongside Eryn O'Brien. The pair secured a second and third place finish in the 200-yard Free, with the former's time of 2:11.20 setting a new season best.

In the 100-yard Backstroke Jorden Sowards-Barnett, Claire Price, and Schultze claimed second through fourth and Price's 1:11.00 time set a new personal best.

O'Brien, Forte, and Allie Huck followed the Mustangs' strong 100 back result at the top Stevenson finisher in the next three events. Huck set a new personal best in the 50-yard Free, recording a time of 28.21.

Umrani-Sanders placed third in the 100-yard Free, followed by Martinez's second victory of the afternoon in the 200-yard Back. She recorded a time of 2:20.29, over seven seconds faster than the second place finisher.

In the 200-yard Breaststroke, Olivia Jansen finished in fourth, immediately followed by Darak's third place finish in the 500-yard Free.

Following her third place in the 100 free, Umrani-Sanders improved that result in the 100-yard Butterfly. Her time of 1:06.99 claimed second place and a new personal best.

The penultimate individual event was the 200-yard Individual Medley and O'Brien finished third with a time of 2:32.11.

Darak, Martinez, Schultze, and Umrani-Sanders claimed second in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay. Darak returned to the pool immediately following the relay for the mixed 400-yard IM. Darak claimed third place and recorded a time of 5:17.77.

Stevenson travels to Grantham, Pa. on January 24 to take on Messiah and Cedar Crest in the penultimate meet before the MAC Championships.
