LAKE PLACID, N.Y – Jayne Debejian of the Stevenson women's ice hockey team spent some of her summer cracking down on her leadership abilities while mentoring at the USA Hockey National Developmental Camps.
Debejian's role included mentorship, organization, and high-energy support while serving as a key-point in the communication between players and coaches. The senior defender's responsibilities included managing team logistics, leading off-ice activities, and fostering a positive, inclusive environment that empowered players to grow both on and off the ice. She was expected to play the vital role in maintaining structure and accountability, while also building strong relationships and team cohesion.
"My favorite part was building relationships with the players and seeing their confidence grow throughout the camp," said Debejian. "Watching them improve each day and knowing I played a role in their development was incredibly rewarding. It reminded me why I love the game and the impact it can have on young athletes."
A four-year member of the Mustangs hockey squad, Debejian has thrived in the Division III student-athlete experience. "Being a Division III athlete helped me connect with the players at USA Hockey Girls Development Camps by showing them that there are multiple paths to play competitive college hockey," noted Debejian. "My experience balancing academics and athletics made me a relatable mentor and role model. It also demonstrated my strong work ethic and passion for the game, which I brought into every drill and interaction with the campers."
"Through this experience, I helped shape an unforgettable camp atmosphere where athletes could thrive at the highest level," concluded Debejian.
