Ten Mustangs Secure Top Podium Position, Stevenson Perform Senior Day Sweep

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Denise Martinez led the Mustangs to three event victories as her team displayed top-class effort in their win over King's College (Pa.) and Wilkes University.

Ten Stevenson swimmers got a taste of victory in their first home meet of the season in dramatic fashion, defeating former MAC opponent Wilkes, 182-74, and current MAC foe King's (Pa.), 210-27.

In their meet, the hosts only lost two events and showcased their dominance winning 12 of the 14 events swam.

James Riordon's team got out of the blocks hot. In the opening event, the 200-yard Medley Relay, Martinez, joined by Olivia Jansen, Alexa Darak, and Natalie Kent, swam a 2:01.24 winning their team's first event.

Charlotte Forte followed up her teammates opening performance securing a victory in the first 1,000-yard Freestyle event of the season, swimming a time of 11:44.84.

Eryn O'Brien won her first event of the season in the 200-yard Freestyle recording a time of 2:09.95. That performance was followed by Martinez winning her second event of the afternoon in the 100-yard Backstroke swimming a 1:04.35.

Forte returned to the pool two events after Martinez's second victory to claim her second individual event win. She swam a 2:41.17 in the 200-yard Butterfly.

Laila Umrani-Sanders responded to Forte's second swim with her lone victory of the meet. In the 50-yard Freestyle, She swam a 25.86 securing an event win in her third-straight meet. Umrani-Sanders and Jansen are the only two Stevenson swimmers to win events in each meet this season.

Sydney Kawana won the 200-yard Backstroke with a time of 2:32.61. Then Jansen followed it up with a 200-yard Breaststroke victory one event later.

Martinez returned to the pool for her fourth and final swim, securing a team-high third event win in the 500-yard Freestyle.

Hailey Buenemann swam in the 100-yard Butterfly, winning her team's tenth event, which was followed by Darak's second win of the meet in the penultimate event, the 200-yard IM.

The Mustangs won the final event of the afternoon, the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, with Sophia Schultze, Kawana, Buenemann, and Umrani-Sanders recording a time of 1:53.16.
