REISTERSTOWN, Md. – The Stevenson men's ice hockey team (1-0) opened its season with a 2-1 victory over SUNY Brockport (0-1) on Friday evening.
After a scoreless first period, Blake Benson broke through late in the second, capitalizing on a power-play opportunity with assists from Jack Karlsson and John Musella. The Golden Eagles evened the score early in the third, but Benson struck again on the man advantage at the 15:42 mark, this time assisted by Greg Spitznagel and Musella.
The Mustangs held a narrow 28-25 edge in shots. Benson led the way with two goals, while Musella tallied a pair of assists. Karlsson and Spitznagel each added an assist, and goaltender Ford DeLoss recorded 24 saves in the win.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, hosting Nazareth at 7 p.m.
