Owings Mills, Md. (October 25) – The Stevenson women's soccer team put together a determined defensive performance on Saturday afternoon but ultimately fell 3-0 to nationally No. 5 ranked Messiah in MAC Commonwealth action at Owings Mills East.
Messiah struck early with a goal in the 12th minute, but Stevenson held strong the rest of the half behind an incredible showing from goalkeeper
Isabella Serano. The first year stood tall between the posts, registering 11 first-half saves to keep the Mustangs within reach.
In the second half, Stevenson found more rhythm offensively with shots from
Colleen Fanning and
Kamille Purcell testing Messiah's defense. Serano continued her standout day, adding six more saves to finish with 17—her highest total of the season. Despite two second-half goals from the Falcons, the Mustangs' back line anchored by
Katelyn Lacey,
Laurel Hutchins, and
Madison Rytina continued to battle until the final whistle.
Stevenson (7-4-5, 3-2 MAC Commonwealth) will look to bounce back when they return home on Wednesday, October 29 at 7:00 p.m. to face Hood in conference action.
