Box Score MADISON, N.J. – A late game turnover allowed the Stevenson University football team to seal a key 24-21 road win over FDU-Florham Saturday afternoon in Middle Atlantic Conference action.
Pat Gorman caught a 20-yard scoring pass from
Nyaire Wilson with 4:37 left in the contest to help Stevenson (2-1, 1-1 MAC) rally from a four-point deficit. With FDU (1-2, 0-2 MAC) driving,
Anthony Lembo intercepted a Ryon Thomas pass at the Stevenson' 47 and returned into Devil territory.
From there, Stevenson did the rest as the Mustangs ran out the final two minutes for their first MAC win of the 2023 season.
The offense was nearly symmetrical on the afternoon, as the Mustangs gained 199 on the ground 201 in the air.
Louis Clouser was a big part of that, as the junior rushed for 154 yards on 18 attempts with two scores.
Maurice Hammond had nine carries for 44 yards.
Wilson finished the day with 201 yards on 13-for-22 passing, with the lone score going to Gorman. Gorman caught six passes for 110 yards and a score, while
Jaiheem Henderson caught three passes for 58 yards.
The defensive unit did their job as well, posting seven sacks on the afternoon.
Corey Jones-Pentz had 12 tackles, six solo, while
Clarence Travis had 11 stops.
Tashan Fitzgerald had two sacks as did
Kidduse Kebede.
Brody Campbell had a 25-yard field goal, and three PAT kicks, as he is now seven points away from setting the school record for points in a career.
FDU took the field in the first quarter, as Ryon Thomas threw a 44-yard pass from Aidan Clowry for a 7-0 lead with 4:32 left. However, Stevenson answered right back as Clouser scored on a 42-yard dash to tie the score at 7 just 39 seconds later.
A two-yard run from Thomas 1:37 into the second quarter gave the Devils a 14-7 lead, before Clouser again tied the score. He ran 60 yards on the first play from scrimmage to tie the score at 14-all with 13:08 left.
FDU looked to take the lead with just under five minutes in the second, but, Chris Maida's 41-yard attempt was blocked by
Charles Greer.
Campbell's first field goal, this one from 25 yards out, gave the Mustangs a 17-14 lead with 5:43 left in the third quarter. The Devils would take the lead one final time with 9:43 left in the game when Kwanir Edwards ran from 1 yard out.
Stevenson will host Widener next Saturday at 1.
