Mustangs Clinch Postseason Berth as Murphy Nets 150th Career Goal

Box Score

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Stevenson women's lacrosse locked up a spot in the upcoming Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth Tournament following a 17-7 victory against Albright on Senior Day at a sun-soaked Mustang Stadium.

Stevenson (10-5, 5-1) recognized its 12 seniors in a pregame ceremony and eventually settled in after a slow start. Meanwhile, Caroline Murphy became just the fourth player in program history with 150 career goals, reaching the milestone on a cutting tally in the second quarter, coincidentally enough the goal that pushed Stevenson ahead for good.

Sophie Shucosky made 14 saves, including some key stops throughout the afternoon in helping the Mustangs settle in. McKenna Blick registered a game-high six points with five goals and an assist as part of another balanced attack for Stevenson. Kaitlyn Kozlowski nabbed 11 draw controls, adding four goals on seven shots. Murphy netted three goals with a pair of assists and Jaibyn Hull guided the Mustang defense with three caused turnovers on the afternoon.

Albright (3-12, 1-5) had an answer for each of the initial two goals of the game from the Mustangs, going back and forth throughout the opening frame. From there, Stevenson used a decisive 4-1 scoring edge in the second quarter before pulling away into the second half.

After Murphy's second goal of the day, Lan Le Crotty and Blick expanded the Stevenson lead to 6-3 at the intermission. The Mustangs opened the second half with five consecutive goals, part of an eight-goal spurt that opened up an 11-3 advantage. Kozlowski began the second half with markers at 13:44 and 13:12 before Blick cashed in on a free-position chance.

Kellyann Coccia and Isabelle VanEmburgh closed out the scoring run before Albright answered back with consecutive markers. The Mustangs posted a 13-5 lead at the end of the third and rounded out the contest with the last three markers, including the final goal of the day from Kara Yarusso that began the running clock.

Abigail Hai and Katelyn Patrick had two goals each for Albright.
