Mustangs Close Out Nonconference Play With Impressive Win Against Rowan

Box Score

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Stevenson women's lacrosse held off Rowan in a 14-11 victory on Wednesday night at Mustang Stadium.

Stevenson (5-4) had eight different goal scorers in a complete effort, paced by a five-point evening from Lan Le Crotty, who finished with four goals and an assist. The Mustangs had a big day in the draw control and held a 9-5 edge at the half, finishing the contest with the last two goals.

Rowan (3-6) has now dropped four of its last five, using a third-quarter push to battle back. Julia Corson and Elise Cohan posted three goals apiece, while Riley Shaup notched 14 saves on the night for the Profs.

Isabelle VanEmburgh tallied her first career goal for the Mustangs, while Kaitlyn Kozlowski notched three goals of her own on five shots.

Stevenson found its footing, pulling ahead at 3-2 in the opening quarter after consecutive goals from Kozlowski and Crotty. After holding off a large chunk of possession from Rowan, Stevenson added to its lead with a marker from Caroline Murphy at the 1:34 mark of the first.

The Profs responded with the opening goal of the second quarter just under two minutes in, slicing the deficit to one. With the score tied, the Mustangs rattled off three consecutive goals to take back the advantage. VanEmburgh gathered in a slick feed and buried the shot before McKenna Blick and Crotty added second-quarter markers for the Mustangs.

Kozlowski charged in from the left side in the third as Stevenson pushed its lead to 10-6. Rowan stayed within striking distance with the next three goals with just under five minutes remaining in the third, cutting the deficit to one.

The Mustangs again scored late in the quarter with a running goal from Kozlowski that mirrored her earlier tally, lifting the Mustangs to a 12-10 edge in the third. Both sides were strong on the defensive end throughout the fourth quarter with the Mustangs closing out the scoring with goals at 4:44 and another with eight seconds remaining.
