Women's Lacrosse Drops MAC Commonwealth Contest at No. 7 York (Pa.)

YORK, Pa. - The Stevenson women's lacrosse team traveled to MAC Commonwealth newcomers York College (Pa.) on Wednesday evening while five different players contributed goals for the Mustangs and were able to score six goals in a strong second half, the Mustangs fell to seventh-ranked York (Pa.) 8-14.

  • York (Pa.) (5-0, 3-0 MACC) Teresa Matthias reeled off two goals in the opening two and a half minutes to give the Spartans a 2-0 lead.
  • The Spartans netted another five goals before Stevenson (4-1, 1-1 MACC) Caity Schaefer put in a goal from Kaitlyn Kozlowski at the 6:47 mark to put the Mustangs on the board.
  • Mary Marc scored 52 seconds later to put Stevenson within five of the Spartans.
  • Spartans Chloe MacDonald and Rachel Della closed out the first half scoring to make it a 2-9 game to lead heading into the second half.

  • Schaefer got things started in the second half as she netted her second goal of the game, with Lan Le Crotty assisting.
  • York's Jenna Cholowinski scored on a free position shot at the 23:44 mark, Hannah Huff responded also on a free position shot for the Mustangs at the 19:39 mark to score her first goal of the game.
  • After a Celly Arthur goal at the 17:23 mark for the Spartans. On a free position, Marc responded a minute later to put in her ninth goal of the season.
  • Crotty notched her ninth and tenth goals of the season at the 12:08 mark and at the 8:53 mark.
  • 20 seconds later, Kara Yarusso scored her first goal of the day to come within three, 8-11.
  • The Spartans closed out scoring with goals two goals from Kiersten Blanchard and one from Matthias to extend their lead by six.

  • The Mustangs had five players scored, topped by Marc, Crotty, and Schaefer's two goals each.
  • Marc, Crotty, and Kozlowski each added one assist.
  • Shannon Snyder had five draw controls, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers.
  • Goaltender Sophie Shucosky had eight saves in 54:52 on the game.
  • The Spartans outshot Stevenson 31-26.
  • Stevenson led with 14 draw controls, while York (Pa.) had 10.
  • The Mustangs were 4-7 in free position shots, while the hosts were 2-5.
