Ten Mustangs Score in MAC Commonwealth Win Against Alvernia

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Junior Mary Marc totaled four goals and as the Mustangs had 10 different players score as the Stevenson women's lacrosse team took it's first MAC Commonwealth victory over Alvernia, 21-5 on Thursday evening at Mustang Stadium.

  • Stevenson (3-0, 1-0 MACC) took the lead by scoring the first seven goals of the half, Marc scored four of the seven. 
  • At the 13:21 mark, Erika Whitmoyer put Alvernia (1-1, 0-1 MACC) on the board to make it a 7-1 game.
  • The Mustangs scored four consecutive goals between the 12 and 10 minute mark. Kirsten Foster started things off with a goal on a free position shot. Goals followed were from Kaitlyn Kozlowski, Hannah Huff, and Caroline Murphy.
  • Whitmoyer scored her second goal of the game for the Golden Wolves to come within 10 of the Mustangs.
  • With 3:27 left before intermission, Murphy extended the Mustangs lead by 11 after a Kozlowski draw control. Hannah Huff followed at the 1:59 mark and with 34 seconds left Murphy scored her third goal of the game.

  • Lan Le Crotty scored just under six minutes into the second half to extend the Mustangs lead.
  • Kozlowski scored her fifth goal of the season, second of the game at the 22:16 mark, then Caity Schaefer scored her second goal just six minutes later to make it a 18-2 contest.
  • Alvernia scored three consective goals between the 15:13 mark and 10:52 mark, capped by a Gianna Taffo free position shot to make it a 18-5 game.
  • Kozlowski scored her third and final goal off an assist from Marc at 6:47 before Maddie Zeller recorded a goal at 5:09. To the cap the game, Kara Yarusso scored her seventh goal of the season at the 3:20 mark to close out the contest.

  • Stevenson outshot Alvernia 28-8.
  • The Mustangs were 1-6 on free position shots while the Golden Wolves were 1-3.
  • Stevenson controlled 17 draws, while the visitors controlled 10.
  • Kozlowski picked up three ground balls, and registered five draw controls on the evening.
  • Sophie Shucosky made three saves on eight shots.

  • Stevenson travels to MAC Freedom's Delaware Valley on Saturday, March 20 for a 1:00 p.m. contest at Lipinski Field.
  • The Mustangs travel to No. 8 York (Pa.) on Wednesday, March 24 for a 7:00 p.m. match-up at Kinsley Field.
